In Huge Spike, India Reports Over 1 L Fresh COVID Cases; Omicron Tally at 3,007

India has confirmed 3,007 cases of the highly-transmissible Omicron variant from 27 states and Union territories.

As COVID-19 cases in the country show an exponential surge, India on Friday, 7 January recorded 1,17,100 fresh coronavirus cases – significantly higher than the 90,928 cases on Thursday. 302 deaths due to the viral diseases were reported in the last 24 hours.

India has confirmed 3,007 cases of the highly-transmissible Omicron variant from 27 states and Union territories so far.

While Maharashtra tops the chart with 876 cases, Delhi has detected 465 cases of Omicron so far.

India has crossed the 1 lakh single-day rise mark merely 36 days after the first cases of the fast-spreading Omicron variant were detected in the country on 2 December.

29 December 2021: 9,195 new cases

30 December 2021: 13,091 new cases

31 December 2021: 16,764 new cases

1 January: 22,775 new cases

2 January: 27,553 new cases

3 January: 33,750 new cases

4 January: 37,379 new cases

5 January: 58,097 new cases

6 January: 90,928 new cases

7 January: 1,17,100 new cases
