Nikhil Advani Opens Up On Fallout with Dharma Productions

Nikhil Advani, who was a long time part of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, had his moment under the sun when he directed his first solo film Kal Ho Naa Ho under the banner, which was one of the biggest hits of 2003. However, soon after Nikhil left Karan Johar’s company. In a recent interview, the director has opened up saying that it was a “very public fallout”, after which, nobody wanted to work with him.

In the latest episode of The Streaming Show podcast, as quoted by Indian Express, Nikhil recalled, “Post Kal Ho Naa Ho, I didn’t have work for three years. Nobody wanted to work with me. I left Dharma Productions and it was a very public fallout. And I didn’t have work for three years and when I finally started working again post D-Day, I just wanted to do anything and everything, never be in that position again.”

In a 2013 interview with TOI, Nikhil had revealed he and Karan Johar had never sat down to discuss what went wrong between them even though they had known each other since their school days.

Nikhil had revealed that they both had egos at the time. After he directed Kal Ho Naa Ho, the relation between assistant director and director became that of two directors, both with superhit films under their kitty. He added they never sat down and asked each other what went wrong, but when Yash Johar passed away, they started talking to each other again.
