MUMBAI: Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar on Tuesday said that if daily Covid-19 positive cases in Mumbai cross 20,000 per day then a lockdown will be necessary.
“I am not saying so but then this is as per the government rules that if cases per day cross 20,000 then lockdown may be required. But then we should not let such a time come for the city. Even today the fight against the novel coronavirus has not ended. None of us want, lockdown but then we all need to ensure we follow Covid appropriate behaviour so that there is no need for it (lockdown) to be implemented,” said Pednekar adding that just like the second Covid wave, Mumbaikars are capable of stopping the third wave too.
She also said that BMC has prepared itself for handling the rapidly increasing case numbers in the city like increasing Covid testing, appealing people to put on their face masks and also asking everyone including the bedridden to ensure that they take their vaccine shots.
“The system cannot run behind every person but then if people themselves decide to follow covid appropriate behavior and try to stop the virus from spreading then the number of rising covid cases can definitely be controlled,” she said.
